Stanford – MIT Healthy Elections Project: Resources for Election Officials

We’re excited to share some resources that Stanford – MIT Healthy Elections Project, The Elections Group, and a team from the d.school at Stanford University developed in partnership with the Center for Tech and Civic Life.

The team at the d.school has been creating resources (and there’s more to come) that are intended for use by elections officials. Currently, there are two resources that we are very eager to share with you all – a guidebook for creating a healthy polling place and educational materials for training poll workers during COVID-19.

Healthy Polling Place Guidebook

This document is for the incredibly busy election officials who need practical examples for running healthy elections during a global pandemic. The document has recommendations drawn from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and examples of how these practices have been put in place by election administrators from across the country during the 2020 primary elections.

Poll Worker Training: Working Elections During COVID-19

This is a ready-to-use training module for poll workers on how to keep themselves and voters safe from COVID-19. It is meant to augment existing poll worker training. It comes with an editable slide deck (in multiple formats) and a script. The script makes note of places to customize content so that the training matches your jurisdiction’s specifications. This training can be delivered in a variety of formats best suited to your needs, as described in the overview of the guide and script. The health and safety guidelines presented in this training are based on information available from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and practices adopted by election offices across the country during the 2020 primary elections.
