Fostering Resilient Elections: CTCL Releases New Report on Emergency Preparedness and Collaboration

“Elections are a ‘zero fail’ event. They are the largest pre-planned event that will happen in your community.” – Emergency Manager

“Lost ballots equals lost votes equals crisis.” – Local Election Official

CTCL is proud to announce the release of our latest report, Fostering Resilient Elections: Opportunities for Stronger Election Administration and Emergency Management Collaboration. The result of extensive conversations between elections officials and emergency managers from across the country, it highlights the importance of collaboration between local election officials and emergency managers to prepare for emergencies before they happen—because disasters don’t wait for the polls to close.

Did you know? Only 43 percent of local election officials coordinated with their emergency response agencies to prepare for the 2024 election.

Guided by real-life experiences—and lessons learned—from local election officials and emergency managers, our report outlines practical opportunities for proactive collaboration and key recommendations to ensure that the democratic process endures, even when disaster strikes.
